Reasons To Say Yes To Raising Chickens

3rd March 2022

If you love to live your life outdoors, then the best thing that you can do is to say yes to raising chickens in your home. Of course, these scratchy little creatures will spend much of their time outside your home, but having chickens on your land walking free range? That’s a great idea, especially if you have kids. Not only can you teach them to look after animals, you can talk more about where their animals come from and how their food gets onto the plate.

There are plenty of reasons to say yes to raising chickens, and there is a lot to learn. From understanding where to find wholesale chicken feed suppliers, to learning how to keep your chickens safe and warm no matter the weather, they can be a valuable addition to your home. Chickens are a great addition to any household with enough land, and here are some of the best reasons to say yes to having those clucky creatures around.

  1. The eggs. Fresh eggs for breakfast? Absolutely. Can you eat as many as the chickens could lay? Probably not! If there is one thing that you know about chickens, you should know they can lay a good few eggs. There is nothing around that beats the flavor you get with fresh eggs everyday but if you have too many, you can easily sell them in your front yard! Think garage sale but for eggs – every single week!
  2. They don’t need as much space as you think. You want an outdoor chicken coop, but you should think about making sure that it’s not too tiny a space. Even a 5ft x 5ft space is enough but you should think about having at least 2-4 square feet per chicken at a minimum.
  3. They’re so easy to care for. Compared to other animals on the farm, chickens are very easy to care for. You don’t need to manage them very much and as long as they have the right shelter and space, you will have happy little chickens in your yard. Chickens like to be petted and cared for, but remember if you’re not a coddling type, you don’t have to worry because chickens will do as well on their own, too.
  4. The costs are low. As much as chickens are easy to care for, they’re also easy to pay for. The costs are low and that means that you can keep your chickens well fed and well cared for without breaking the bank. There are a range of treats and food you can find for your chickens, and that means finding the right suppliers. Get proper advice, because you will need it!
  5. They’re a good teaching tool. If you want to teach your children to look after animals, having chickens at home will really help. Your children will learn so much about these animals and it’ll really make a difference to their care when they have children collecting eggs and laughing as they do!
