Stay-at-home parents often have quite a lot on their plate. Between school, household chores, and more, it can often feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. Once your child has interests outside of the home and they’re in school full-time, you could find yourself with more time on your hands.

That mightn’t mean that you have enough for a full-time job, however, or that you necessarily want one. Instead, you might want something that you can spend a few hours on during the week while looking after your kids.

A freelance job might be one of the better recommended options. Also known as a side hustle, this is a job that you do outside of your main responsibilities. In this case, they can be done outside of your parenting duties.

There are a few freelance jobs that could be better recommended than others.

Jobs That Stay-At-Home Parents Can Do

Legal Translation Services

Legal translation services are typically geared to companies with an expanding presence abroad. While this will usually be larger businesses, smaller firms will also do so. The latter of these often can afford in-house professionals to translate their legal documents.

Since getting it done will be vital, they’ll outsource it to a legal translation professional. If you’ve got excellent language skills – preferably in several languages – then this could be a role for you.

Depending on exactly what industries you target with legal translation services, compensation for these services can be quite high.

Copy Editor

Quite a few people have thought about copywriting as a career path. As a result, there’s quite a lot of competition in the field. If you’re good with writing, then you might want to consider becoming a copy editor.

Though you’ll need to have a noticeably higher standard of grammar and writing, this can be a rewarding path. Alongside working with magazines and other publications, you can copy-edit books and much more, giving you plenty of interesting opportunities.

Illustrator

If you’re good with a pen and pencil, then a career in illustration could be an option for you. The number of illustrators who work on a freelance basis can be surprising. These are similar to graphic designers, although they’ll be more focused on different areas.

Typically, an illustrator will work on magazines, newspapers, advertisements, comic books, and more. Since there tends to be fewer technical skills associated with this role, it could be a recommended option if you’re not too good with technology.

When you’re starting out, you might replicate other peoples’ styles. After a while, however, it’s worth developing one of your own to stand out.

Wrapping Up

If you want to earn a little bit of extra money on the side, then a freelance job could be more than recommended. At the start, you mightn’t earn too much out of it, especially if you don’t have much time to work on it.

The more you put into it, however, the more you can get out. Patience will be a large aspect of this, so it’s worth taking your time to make sure you do things the right way.
