But it’s something they’ll likely gain a lot from, and your focus should be on making sure that they get the utmost from the experience and that they’re properly prepared for it in each and every way. Set a Budget and Discuss it With Them

You’ll also need to think about how much money you’re going to give your child to take with them. You can give them cash or you can load up a prepaid card with money if you prefer. Discuss it with them and tell them what the money is to be spent on.

Go Over the Basics of Staying Safe

 

It’s also important to discuss safety. If they’ve never been away from you for so long or so far away from you, they need to know how to stay safe. Of course, if this is a school trip, they’ll have teachers looking out for them and making sure everything’s okay. You should still go over the basics and warn them what to do and what not to do.

 

Understand Everything the Trip Will Involve

 

From a parental perspective, you’ll want to have your mind put at ease so that you don’t spend the whole time they’re away worrying about them. In order to do that, find out as much about the trip as you possibly can. Disneyland Paris school trips and similar kinds of trips tend to have set itineraries, so it shouldn’t be hard to find out where your child will be, what they’re doing and when.

 

Pack With Them

 

As you get closer to the date they leave for their trip, you should go through the whole packing process with them. By doing so, you’ll be able to ensure they have everything they need to take with them and nothing is left at home. You definitely don’t want to leave them to pack alone.

I cannot recommend lists highly enough. Make a list and check items off as you pack them. Give your child a copy of the list in the case so they can do the same when they pack to come home. That was they aren’t going to inadvertently leave anything behind.

 

Set Rules and a Communication Schedule

 

Set some rules for how you expect them to behave and talk about how you’re going to stay in touch. It’s easy to carry out Skype calls and video chats these days, so communication shouldn’t be any kind of problem at all.

 

It can be a little scary when you’re sending your child off on their first trip overseas without you. However, it could be exactly what they need. It’s these kinds of experiences that really help children to grow and mature. It’ll be liberating for them and they’ll have a great time, so don’t fret over it too much.
