Becoming More Creative In Everyday Life

There’s nothing quite like being creative. It helps us express ourselves, craft certain projects we are proud of, and it gives us the chance to think in a lateral manner. Some people like running blogs, others like creative writing, others paint, and some even sculpt. Dance, and even fitness are essential aspects of staying creative with your physical energies, and that can be important too.

Becoming creative in everyday life, then, is not something you practice to give yourself something to do, but because partaking in it is its own reward. Yet if you’ve been lacking in the creative department for some time due to life responsibilities or life events that took you by surprise, it can be important to try and flex your creative muscles once more.

However, like anything else, getting started is often the hardest part. When you start to roll that boulder down the mountain it will gain exponential speed, but to start with we must place our shoulders against its breadth and push. But how do we push? Let’s explore that below:

Creative Writing

Creative writing often seems like a difficult hobby to get started with. Unlike painting, it’s not entirely clear if what you’re writing or putting down on the page is actually worthwhile, or if it reads well, or if it holds quality as a craft. Yet there’s no reason for you to write something on the level of Shakespeare’s plays or Moby Dick for you to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in this effort at all. In fact, it’s often the humble writing that can be transformed into something more.

It doesn’t matter what you write. Perhaps you feel like writing a short, hilarious western story about Cowboy Pete, a 3’10 gunslinger who, despite his incredible sharpshooting, is always sensitive about his stature. Perhaps you might try writing a horror story based on something that really scares you, tapping into your appreciation for Lovecraft. Or, maybe you’ll just write about your day in your journal and try to bring some narrative structure to the entire venture, describing the beauty of someone’s eyes rather than what you did with them that day and why as a sole description.

Put simply, creative writing can be whatever you wish it to be. Don’t feel limited. Don’t feel the need to create a finished work. Just write about that which you hope to achieve, even if it’s just your plans for the garden that summer. Odds are you’ll begin thinking more laterally and indulging in verbose descriptive efforts, and that’s all part of the fun!

Arts & Crafts

When we play as children, we become used to playing with whatever items we have available. Colored paper, well folded and drawn on can simulate grass outside of a small dollhouse, or we can make snowflakes with careful folding and cutting, and these are just two examples out of many that we can fondly remember.

Yet as we get older, it can sometimes be that our interest in arts and crafts, producing more complex creations as part of our advanced adult ability, starts to wane. That’s such a shame, because the possibilities are endless here, and you may find that you learn many new skills through these acts of creativity. For instance, glue dots can be used to help you construct furniture or shelving units as part of your home decoration.

You may also head to a fayre to begin creating pottery through a scheduled class there, or take up glass blowing, or even woodworking. Arts and crafts can also be a nice method to decorate your home, especially during Christmas time or other special holidays. One of the best features of taking part in arts and crafts is the community that surrounds it. You may be stunned by just how many friends you can make sharing crafting tips online, or heading to special meetups, or simply attending groups in your city. Who knows? You may just thoroughly enjoy yourself no matter which direction you go in.

Physical Expression

Physical expression can give many the chance to better ‘feel themselves’ in their body, making use of their capacities for movement, grace, and even exercise. For instance, you may decide to transform your spare room into a place to conduct wonderful yoga sessions. Some crystals, incense, a candle or two, a speaker to play your music through, a mirror and a yoga mat can combine and turn an empty room into a place you relax and conduct your stretches with ease and grace.

Physical expression can also be found through dance. For instance, heading to a salsa class with one of your friends could be a great deal of fun, and may even help you build confidence as you become more skilled and well-exercised. Physical expression is an important form of creativity, because we are not beings of thought alone. Moving the energy down into your body and having fun can be a great use of your time, no matter what.

Decorating The Home

Of course, creativity needn’t seem like some lofty artistic ambition that forces you to try a new craft or practice you’re not comfortable with. It can be good to get out of your comfort zone, but creativity is just as applicable within it than out of it. For instance, you may find that decorating your home in the best instance is essential for establishing your creative intent within said residence.

For instance, using stencils to help provide a pattern around the perimeter of your siding, painting a mural to your family, or curating a wall garden, could all give your home that comforting feel. Alternatively, you may wish to try new forms of lighting or signs, such as that available from Neon Mama, to brighten up your home and give it a more modern twist. All can be appropriate, and it all matters. This is not the task of one week, but something you can contribute to and enjoy as the time goes on. To that end, you’re sure to enjoy engaging in creativity in a safe environment.

With this advice, we’re certain that you’ll exercise your creativity more and more in everyday life.
