Equality

12th December 2015

As a fervent believer in equality, imagine my delight on a recent trip to the hairdressers to see a nice bit of sexual equality in one of the trashy magazines.

I say nice. What I actually mean is – insidious, nasty and unnecessary.

I’ve seen magazines tearing into famous women previously, for the heinous crime of aging – it’s the first time I’ve seen a whole article devoted to famous men being judged and vilified for not looking like they did when they were twenty.

I’m all for equality but this is just nonsensical. Take a look…

I think this is just as unacceptable as body shaming women and whoever wrote this and saw fit to publish it ought to be ashamed of themselves.

We are not all living in the first flush of youth. Articles like this are setting unrealistic goals, out of the reach of people who can’t afford designer clothes and plastic surgery – and even out of the reach of those who can, apparently.

Stop it. Please. Just let us BE. All of us. We are not meant to be scrutinised and criticised.

Life is too short to worry about this bullshit.

Be kind. Stop judging. Be kinder.
