Taking Control

Taking Control

Do you ever feel that sometimes the Universe is trying to tell you something?

I’m having one of those days. I’m also having one of those days and I’m starting to think the two things are not unconnected.

Let me take you back to this morning. No wait. Further than that – roundabout this time last year.

I’m not going into details because REASONS, suffice to say that about a year ago my life went through some massive changes. And as is my wont, a lot of this played out across various social media platforms.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the TimeHop app? It looks back over your social media history and throws up daily memories.

Generally speaking, I love TimeHop. It’s great to open the app each morning and look back over this day in MY history.

But for the last few days, I’ve opened the app with a certain amount of trepidation, almost afraid of what I might see and which wounds might be re-opened. A whole heap of stuff I don’t really want to be reminded off. Too raw. Too painful.

I touched on that this morning, on Twitter with my awesome friend Pol, who mentioned that she too was struggling a little with some of TimeHop’s insistent scar prodding.

And then something wonderful happened. Pol said “shall we make a self-care pact and delete the app?” In that moment, it felt like a weight has been lifted.

We both rushed to delete the app!

And after…taaa-daaah…

Taking Control

I sat back and breathed. Deeply. It felt good. There were things there that could have hurt me. Would have hurt me. Not now.

Pol, with her characteristic talent for hitting the nail right on the head said “Look at what we did. We took control of how things make us feel. That was so easy, but so significant”.

You know what? She was right. It’s a hard thing to remember when we are in depths of despair and self-pity, but in the majority of cases, if something or someone hurts us? It’s because we let them. Stop giving permission! If something is not only NOT accentuating your life, but is actively hindering you, stifling you, stopping you – close it down. Shut it up.

Take control. It feels AMAZING. It might be the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but I promise it will be one of the most worthwhile.

So that was my first message from the Universe. Take control. Take BACK control.

Then this evening, FaceBook offered up this gem – it’s National Let It Go Day

Taking Control
Those of you that know me will know that I have a serious thing about that song. Not the film, just the song and the sentiment behind it.

So much so that I have an Elsa tattoo on my thigh. DON’T LOOK HER DIRECTLY IN THE FACE!  (It’s a beautiful tattoo, apart from the face).

Taking Control
So now I feel like the Universe is yelling at me and the message is clear – time to be the mistress of my own destiny. Very definitely time to Let It Go and take control.

I’m gonna go with hell yeah. Also, love that you’re taking control, love that you’re desiring for destiny and not the other way round. The last can only hurt us if we let it. Time hop lets it. Jog on time hop xxx
